This film is on the surface a quirky, dark comedy about Lars, a painfully shy bachelor whose choice of love interest becomes the catalyst for the story; and of his family and the people in a small midwest town who go along with his delusion. Underneath it is a touching, heartfelt, and honest story about loss and love. It was nominated for numerous awards for best actor (Ryan Gosling) and screenwriter (Nancy Oliver, from Six Feet Under).
